Description
Does it move with the wind? Does it move if I blow on it? Should I try? It’s called “Fazzoletto”; it’s one of the first pieces designed by Fulvio Bianconi for Venini and was created with a circular, soft yet decisive gesture by the master glassmaker.

Designed by Fulvio Bianconi in 1948, Fazzoletto is one of Venini’s most iconic creations and a symbol of 20th-century Italian design. Inspired by the gentle movement of a handkerchief blowing in the wind, its unmistakable silhouette transforms glass into an expression of elegance, color, and fluidity.
Handcrafted in Murano using the traditional “mano volante” technique, each piece is the result of extraordinary artisanal skill, passed down from generation to generation. The subtle variations that characterize each Fazzoletto attest to its uniqueness, making every vase an authentic expression of Venini’s glassmaking artistry.
A creation that embodies art, magic, poetry, and pride—so much so that it has been added to the permanent collection at MoMA in New York.
Designer
After settling in Milan, Fulvio Bianconi worked throughout his life with the publishing houses Mondadori, Bompiani, and Garzanti as a graphic designer and illustrator, while also creating frescoes for the Galtrucco stores and the pavilions at the Fiera Campionaria. Alongside these professions, he maintained a lifelong passion for glass.
In 1946, he made repeated trips to Murano to study the art of glassmaking. There, his encounter with Paolo Venini proved decisive: the young man’s creativity marked a turning point in the history of the VENINI company. Fulvio Bianconi’s relentless pursuit and experimentation with new techniques for working with glass—including the revival of ancient skills—was a constant throughout his career. New patterns and colors emerged in the glass, redefining the connection between Murano’s history and cutting-edge modernity.
The fusion of craftsmanship with creative flair has given rise to numerous iconic works, such as the Commedia dell’Arte Figures, the Tiepolo pieces, the Fazzoletto, the Sirens, and the Pezzati. Paolo Venini In 1921, Paolo Venini—a Milanese lawyer with a long family tradition in glassmaking—founded, together with Giacomo Cappellin, an antique dealer, the company that would bear the name VENINI. Founded with the goal of transforming the traditional craft of glassmaking into an innovative art form, it quickly became a highlight of the Milan Triennials, the Venice Biennales, and exhibitions throughout Europe and the United States.
This achievement was made possible by the synergy—promoted by Venini himself—between master artisans, designers, and architects from around the world, with the aim of anticipating and shaping taste, giving each model that emerges from his furnaces a distinct identity.
His confident aesthetic choices, combined with the large quality of his products, have earned his glassworks growing critical and public acclaim.
He himself has been dedicated to design since the early 1930s: the “Diamante” glass pieces date back to 1936, as do the “Murrine Romane,” created in collaboration with Carlo Scarpa.
