The origins of the sinuous style , characteristic of all Vecchio Ginori porcelain, date back to the 18th century. History has left us with a small but significant detail: a term that was commonly used to refer to this very shape. A precious legacy from the past that allows us to still perceive today the grandeur and strength that have made it immune—almost untouched—by the passing of the centuries. In Doccia, the magical place where our Ginori 1735 brand was born, it was common to refer to the characteristic border on porcelain dinnerware sets and all other items bearing this name as “alla sassone.” This term is rooted in an 18th-century Germanic tradition, according to which porcelain was crafted with embossed patterns resembling those of woven baskets. It is no coincidence that “ozier” is the slightly more technical term used to describe this type of embossed decoration, whose translation from German to Italian refers precisely to a “wicker basket.” A tradition that the masters of the Manifattura have made their own, refining the weaves to be more delicate and the lines more sinuous, with a distinctly Italian sense of style and artisanal mastery that has immortalized this simple yet elegant motif.
