The origins of the sinuous style , characteristic of all Vecchio Ginori porcelain, are lost in the 18th century. History has left us a small but significant detail: an expression commonly used to refer to this very shape. A precious legacy from the past that allows us to perceive, even today, the grandeur and strength that have rendered it immune—almost untouched—by the passage of the centuries. In Doccia, the magical place where our Ginori 1735 company was founded, it was common to call the distinctive border on porcelain dinnerware sets —and all other items bearing this name— “alla sassone.” This term is rooted in 18th-century Germanic tradition, according to which porcelain was crafted with embossed patterns resembling those of woven baskets. It is no coincidence that “ozier” is the slightly more technical term used to describe this type of embossed decoration, whose translation from German to Italian refers precisely to a “wicker basket.” A tradition that the masters of the Manufactory have made their own, rendering the weaves more delicate and the lines more sinuous, with a distinctly Italian sense of style and artisanal mastery that has immortalized this simple yet elegant motif.
