From 1923 to 1933 Gio Ponti served as artistic director of Manifattura Ginori, and in 1926 his boundless creativity gave rise to numerous designs. Among them was a sophisticated interweaving of straight lines that, chasing one another without ever touching, creates a sense of movement, vertigo, and disorientation. A Labyrinth, indeed. One in which it is a pleasure to lose oneself. One in which there are no longer any reference points—up and down, right and left. One in which ancient and modern are no longer “before” and “after” but a single design: a motif that repeats in six color variations —black, scarlet, Smeraldo, ebony, cashmere, and sapphire—on all the porcelain plates, tea and coffee cups, trays, and bowls in the collection.
